LITTER INDEX 2008
|
Carrollton, GA - (March
18, 2008)
Keep Carroll
Beautiful, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, organized this
year's Litter Index which is designed to measure and identify
problem areas in various communities. Keep Carroll Beautiful hopes
the Index will help change littering attitudes and behaviors within
Carroll County, and enhance related community improvement issues.
The data obtained through the Litter Index will determine the
types of community improvement programs needed to address current
conditions, and achieve long-term sustainable results.
County
Wide Litter Index Results:
Teams of volunteers conducted a windshield tour of approximately
20% of the roads in Carroll County. They measured visible roadside
trash on a scale from 1 to 4 with 1 being "no litter" and 4 being
"heavily littered."
This year's results indicated that Carroll County is at a 2.0788
meaning "slightly littered" and that litter was visible to the
scorer. Keep Carroll Beautiful, the local Keep America Beautiful
affiliate, organized this year's annual Litter Index on February
25, 2008.
The Index is designed to measure roadside trash and identify illegal
dumping sites in Carroll County. Keep Carroll Beautiful hopes
that by publishing these results littering attitudes and behaviors
in Carroll County will change.

E-RECYCLING
PROGRAM 2008
|
Carrollton, GA - (March
13, 2008)
Despite 25 degree temperatures, heavy winds and snow, residents
of Carroll county and the surrounding area came out in full force.
A three hour long radio remote on Kiss 102.7 reminded listeners
that the event was still being held. Within four hours ¾ of a
tractor trailer was filled with old electronics that would normally
have gone to a landfill. This year's Electronics Recycling Event
collected over 25,000 pounds of electronic waste in Carroll County.
The
2nd Annual Spring Electronics Recycling Event was hosted by Keep
Carroll Beautiful. "On a cold winter day, there were young adults
and [KCB] board members who came together to work on a civic project,
and the community responded well," said Keep Carroll Beautiful
Board Member Lee Gorman. "It is my opinion that the event was
very successful." A total of 112,000 pounds of electronic waste
has been collected since the first Electronics Recycling Event
held in Carroll County.
Each year, Keep America Beautiful celebrates the Great American
Cleanup between March 1st and May 31st. Studies have shown that
approximately 70% of toxins found in landfills result from improper
disposal of electronics. Recycling raw materials found in electronics
preserves natural resources, and reduces the air and water pollution
caused by manufacturing new products. This collection was sponsored
by Southwire Corporation, DieTech Industries, Inc, Honda Precision
Parts of Georgia, Gradick Communications, Waste Industries, and
Kiss 102.7.
