Litter Index
What is a litter index?
The litter index is a method designed by Keep America Beautiful to measure and identify problem areas in various communities. This entails a volunteer group of people who ride through the community and "count" pieces of litter.
How does it work?
The area covered by the litter index is laid out on a grid. Volunteers are assigned to specific sections of the grid. Then, over a period of fays, they drive the same roads and make observations about the type and volume of litter that they see. This information is then compiled into a report that is sent to Keep America Beautiful.
How often is a litter index compiled?
A litter index is completed annually.
How does the report benefit Carroll County?
As a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, Keep Carroll Beautiful is responsible for the litter index here in Carroll County. The information provided by the index enables Keep Carroll Beautiful to develop programs that address the problem areas.
